3 Common Machines for Warehouse and Equipment Rigging

Moving large pieces of equipment is no easy task. When you need to set up a new factory, replace equipment, or change locations, the whole task may seem overwhelming. With the help of a professional rigging company, the job can happen with ease and minimal problems.

When you hire a company for rigging needs, they will typically evaluate the move itself, the size of the equipment, and the end goal. With all of those options in mind, you can expect to see three different types of machines for the rigging. Learn about those machines and how they work to move heavy equipment.

1. Forklift

Rigging companies often rely on the strength and portability of a forklift to move items around. The ability to make tight turns and fit into small spaces allows operators to use a forklift in many scenarios. A forklift can slide under equipment, lift up on the equipment, and securely move items to a different location.

A forklift operator will understand the proper weight limits and features for certain pieces of equipment. A forklift operator will also make careful movements to ensure the equipment moves slowly and no damage occurs. The precise movements of a forklift makes it easy to place equipment down in an exact location.

2. Tri-Lifter

For oversized and extremely heavy equipment, a rigging company may opt for a tri-lifter instead of a forklift. Large hydraulics and a strong base make a tri-lifter a much stronger option than most forklift designs. A tri-lifter essentially looks like an oversized forklift.

A rigging company can use the large lift to pick up heavy equipment and ensure the equipment rises above the ground. A tri-lifter operator can also strap items to the lift and pull up on the industrial straps to carry items. The straps provide stability and can help carry awkward sized items that the typical lifts cannot carry.

A rigging company also has the option to equipment a small crane to the tri-lifter. The crane acts as additional support and will evenly distribute the weight of the items. When you hire a rigging company, the rental comes with a trained operator who will choose the best method for moving equipment with a tri-lifter.

3. Gantry System

For temporary or short moves across a single location, you may consider a gantry system. A gantry system is commonly referred to as a bridge crane. A company will install two ends of the gantry system inside your business: one end near the start of the move and another near the end location. The large pillars can handle multiple tons of weight and support.

A bridge piece in the middle connects to each side and serves as the moving track for heavy equipment. Small cranes, hooks, or straps connect to the equipment, and high-power engines will pull up on the straps to lift the piece of equipment in the air. From there, the equipment slides across the gantry system in a straight line and then gets set down in the new location.

Gantry systems come in different sizes and weight limits depending on your needs. Once the move is complete, a rigging company will take apart the whole system and free up the extra space inside your warehouse area. The impact of the machine will typically leave minimal marks or impact on floors due to the weight distribution.
